Winter Competitions
Here are details of the Winter Prone Rifle competitions offered by Dorset RA.
(PR-1) Team of 5 League
Teams of 5, round-robin format in divisions.
Each competitor shoots 10 rounds, each round comprising 10 shots.
May be shot concurrently with the Individual league
Local scoring.
(PR-2) Individual League
Round-robin format in divisions.
Each competitor shoots 10 rounds, each round comprising 10 shots.
May be shot concurrently with the Team league
Local scoring.
(PR-3) Team of 3 League
Teams of 3, ‘best 2 of 3’, round-robin format in divisions.
Each competitor shoots 5 rounds, each round comprising 20 shots.
The best two competitor’s scores in each round will be counted towards the team total ex 400.Local scoring.
(PR-4) Dorset Short Range Championship
Qualification:
4 classes (A, B, C, D).
Restricted to residents of Dorset
4 Cards, total 40 shots.
Best 3 of 4 cards count towards a total ex 300
Highest scorer in each class will be named Class Champion.
Ties decide on countback.
Local scoring.
Final:
The 10 highest scoring contestants in the qualification round (up to a maximum one third of the contestants who returned scores) regardless of Class will be invited to a shoulder-to-shoulder match to compete for the title of County Short-Range Champion.

Ties decided by shoot-off.
(PR-5) J.W.R.Newman Trophy
Name your own start (handicap), knockout competition for Pairs
Minimum team handicap 20 points
Handicap remains unchanged throughout the competition
Each competitor shoots 2 cards per round, each card comprising 10 shots
The number of rounds depends on the number of entries
Both members of the pair must shoot on the same range and complete each round on the same day.
Central scoring. Oversized gauges will be used to decide ties
IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE!
Unless otherwise stated here, NSRA rules apply to all competitions.
The use of electronic targets is NOT currently permitted in any Dorset prone rifle leagues. In consequence, NSRA rule 5.2.1.1 will not apply in any of the Dorset prone rifle leagues. Please ensure that your scorers are aware of this.
All competitions are short-range (25, 20 or 15yds) and shall be shot using the appropriate NSRA prone rifle target (e.g. 2510BM/89-18 for 25 yard ranges)
Dorset Rifle League Averages are based on the best five of the last six accredited league scores.
Class thresholds:
Class A : 98.0 and above
Class B : 96.5 – 97.9
Class C : 94.0 – 96.4
Class D : 93.9 and below
The Leagues will be manged in the Rifle Leagues system. All entries to be made through that system, and locally scored results to be entered there too. Results for most competitions will be available there immediately after each round closes. Results for the Championship and JR Newman competitions will be published on the Dorset website, and emailed to participating clubs.
